Google Earth 4D: My Best Ever Map Tour

Google earth gives me a better map with a better idea than a large piece of paper map with some ‘dead’ road location. Compare to this, google earth leads me the real world to an ‘unknown’ place on a trip. Typing in any name from/to the location, hover the mouse to the right top to zoom into the real angle and presents me really good idea on how exactly the place look likes. After having fun with any angle over the world from Australia -> New Zealand -> Europe -> USA -> Asia and back to my home, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. But heck, guess what! I can’t locate the building of my own home in Kuala Lumpur! It should be somewhere near KLCC! The building name “Menara City One” opposites Wilayah Complex and behind SOGO just disappeared on the map! I thought Google earth is a updated map? Or was there an earthquake in Malaysia??? Can you please find for me? LOL.

It was really fun after all. By now, Google skipped right past the third dimension and landed directly in the fourth (time) by offering historical maps on Google Earth. Now I can travel back in time at the globe of 1790. Don’t expect detailed high resolution photography from days gone by, but it’s still interesting to see old maps overlaid on the satellite imagery of today. Playing with layer transparency on the overlaid maps really gives me a good sense of how things have changed over the years. To use this new feature, expand the Featured Content -> Rumsey Historical Maps in the Layers panel.
